I've had this blog for a long time. Freshman year of high school, actually. I'm currently a senior in high school, and boy howdy has a lot changed. {Warning: this may get cliche and/or cheesy.} Honestly, without this blog I'd probably still be stuck in the sad fashion hole I was in before. Long story short, I thought I'd share the top 17 things {since I'm 17.. clever, eh} I've learned through blogging about myself or style or life. {Keep in mind I've had my blog since FRESHMAN year. So what may seem like an obvious thing to know wasn't so obvious as a lowly freshman...}

1. A pair of dark wash bootcut jeans will always look good.

2. Black and brown and even navy can be worn together and not look disastrous.

3. All of the awful outfits of the past were worth it now that I'm finding my style.

4. Inspiration is everywhere.

5. Just because my town is known as "fashionable" doesn't mean I can't be.

6. Heels are not just for fancy events.

7. "Dressing up" is fun.

8. People tell you to pick out an outfit the night before. I've learned I'll never make time to do that.

9. You don't have to choose between athlete or "fashionista". It's not an either/or. You can be both.

10. Wearing all black doesn't make you "emo".

11. Being an artist doesn't mean you have to draw well. You can be an artist with your words, your clothing, your photography, your designs...

12. Graphic Design is what I want to spend the rest of my life doing. {Heck, as long as I'm not working the job I have now I'll be ok}

13. It doesn't matter where you buy your clothes, it's how you style them.

14. I learned my shoe collection was utterly pathetic.

15. It's ok to have bad pictures of yourself. (Ahem ^^).

16. People won't always understand what you're wearing, but if you do, then it doesn't matter.

17. Stop comparing. {Mom, I give credit to you here. Nuff said.}

I believe I can now say I understand the clothing plight of stay at home moms/ home schoolers / those who work at home in general. At the moment, I'm taking three online classes, which generally equates to me sitting around in my pajamas and messy hair (yes, I admit) staring endlessly at a computer screen.

Thankfully, all it takes to bring something special to a super basic outfit is a bold headband worn hippie-style. Plus, I'm loving the dark tones of the pictures. I think editing pictures of yourself can be a lot more fun because you get to experiment... unlike taking portraits, you can edit your pictures to fit a certain mood.

Calm

Sometimes life is so busy, so full, so time consuming. {Imagine that, life being time consuming?! Who woulda thunk it...} Whenever I get frustrated with photography or style or my efforts, I like to find solace in calmer moments. For me, the summer is always a nice relaxer, and so I went back to this stop motion video from this past summer. I'm kind of obsessed with stop motions + calm music + memories from the summer. I'm feeling better already.

I'll admit, I'm still like a little kid when I wake up and find that the weather man was right, and a layer of snow is coating the ground. By now, there's about 7 inches of snow. Do you know what 7 inches of snow can do a town? Let me fill ya in...

- It sends people to the store to buy enough food for a small village to survive a nuclear warfare.

- It becomes the subject of 1,129 Facebook status'. Well, that's just an estimate. I actually don't have that many friends...

- It causes lots of wipeouts, mostly because a large number of people don't know how to drive in the snow.

- It shuts down school, without a doubt. No complaints there, though.

- Actually, it kind of shuts down the entire town...

But hey, the snow is beautiful and I'm loving every flake of it. Stay warm, friends. Stay warm.

PS: I feel like I should mention that this is actually my sister Emma, the willing model of my life.

Talking Colors

Maybe it's the intriguing idea of wearing red and blue without looking like the American flag, or maybe it's the red and blue color combinations I keep seeing everywhere I go... either way, this may be my new favorite colors: Red (or a red-ish pink) and blue. For me, these colors say "We're over those dark winter colors but we're not quite ready for spring." Because yes, I can talk to colors. It's kind of a talent.

Props to the Apple Store for getting the computer fixed real quick like. You see, while others choose to be in relationships with actual people, I'm kindda in a relationship with the computer. {And Mac&Cheese, but it's kind of complicated...} I missed it while it was gone.

Props to life, for making me look like a fool talking about Christmas lights after Christmas.

Props to the people in my town, for having some really pretty lights, and pretending to not think I'm a creeper for driving around at night and photographing your house.

Oh, and props to you all for being patient. You're the bomb.

Hey, I'm Kathryn. Yeah, the girl who writes this blog. It's been a while...I haven't posted allll year! {those new year jokes never get old.}

Isn't it funny how you have these plans and then that little thing called life steps in with its business and says, "Actually, blogging has to come after scholarship applications." {Or is it my parents that said that? Can't remember...}

Or, when the computer that has all your pictures has to take a week with the Apple Genius', therefore taking away the pictures that I was going to blog until next week.

Long story short, I'm still very much into this, and will be back to normal {whatever that is!} hopefully by next week! I've missed you all.

Lately I've been inspired by faded photographs paired with bright pops of color, thin fonts, and the summer. You may remember these pictures, in fact, from the summer. This time around, though, they're more faded, slightly grainy, and almost washed out. Not exactly timeless, but for what I had in mind, they're perfect. Almost like dreams. Slightly hazy and not always clear.

Which is why my friend and I decided we would have a formal party later this winter. Really, it just gives us an excuse to buy cute dresses. That one, up there? Yeah, it's my new love. No big deal or anything.

Welcome Back to Awkward

This cute {in an overly fluffy, potentially flea ridden way} cat was lounging on my neighbors sunny steps/swivel chair. Did I mention that the neighbors no longer live there? Right. You'll have to take my word that I actually don't live in a sketchy place. My neighbors were just a bunch of guys who had zero interest in lawn care and probably didn't own a lawn mower. Ah, neighbors. Gotta love 'em.

Awkward:

- Being in the only empty row in a jam packed class. It's like people will keep coming in, but for some reason avoid my row at all costs. I don't think I smell...

-Going to check out a new thrift shop close to my house {exciting, right?} only to find that's it's actually kind of a disgusting thrift shop. Bummer.

- Following someone to the same place. The other day I literally walked behind someone for 6 {yes, SIX} minutes, from our cars to a building on campus. I promise I'm not a creeper.

Awesome:

- Having all my friends use "kat" as a substitute for swearing. Trust me, once you start using kat it's hard to stop.

- Movie nights with friends that include Star Wards movies. Epic, I tell you.

- The professor that lets me make friendship bracelets during class. It gives my fingers something to do, and keeps me awake. {I promise I'm still listening!}

-Getting to do an awkward and awesome post. It's been fer dayz, yo.

I Like To Pretend That I Can Draw...

But I can't. It's just not one of my talents. Instead of taking time to practice, I choose to skip the practice and just pretend I can draw with the magic of technology. This is not only a time saver but an ego boost too. I mean, take a look at those beauties up there. See, I feel better about myself already.

(Fun fact: I think there is only one drawing I did that actually resembles what it is meant to be. Yes, my penguin drawing is the best work I've ever done. And the rest? Well, let's just say it's not a good sign when people say, "Oh, is that a [insert random animal here]?" And you have to tell them that no, it was meant to be a wolf. Ah, the tragedy.

Rainy Days and Christmas Trees

Have you ever made a decision only to look back and wonder what in the world was going through your mind, because the decision you made was rather awful? Admit it, you have. This quarter at school, I had one of those decisions. Maybe I was feeling on top of the world, or something as powerful, but I decided that it would be a good idea to take a Biology class Saturday mornings. At 8. AM. To 12. Yes, four hours of science. It's not exactly a life changing decision, but it certainly made me question my sanity.

In case you were wondering, getting dressed at 8 AM on a Saturday when it's raining out and freezingggg cold is quite challenging. For one thing, my brain is not quite running full steam. The other issue is that it's hard (at first) to think of outfits that are cute, yet still practical. And by practical, I mean they have to withstand tromping through the soaking woods for a few hours in the rain, setting pitfall traps (catching bugs, yo), and all around freezing your butt off. Needing to inspire myself, I created these. *Sigh of relief*. It's possible to look cute and warm, hallelujah.

Part Two of Caylie's senior pictures was on a much nicer day. We headed out to her place on the lake, and it was gorgeous. It certainly made us a bit nostalgic for the past summer, but although the sun was out it was still about 20 degrees too cold. I'm just going to go out on a limb and say that fall colors are the bomb for taking pictures. (Pun possibly intended...you know, limb...leaves... maybe?) So punny.

Love Your Body Day

I'm always confident with my body and never have issues with it. The end.

^^ Haha, just kidding. Here's the real deal.

The combination of being active because of sports, and naturally thin means that I usually shouldn't worry about my weight. But shouldn't doesn't always mean don't. I think what some people don't realize is that just because you don't think someone should be self conscious doesn't mean they won't be. Now, I'm all for confidence about myself and my body, and not being negative, but the reality is that there are some days where I'll have zero confidence in my body. It's life. The important thing for me, then, is when it comes to comparisons. If I start finding worth in who I am compared to someone else, I will literally never. be. happy. Society is kinda weird, ya know? If you get down on yourself because of your body, then people get on you for that. But if you're always confident and about it, people start to think you're cocky or self-absorbed.

I know people are always hating on people who say "I wish I would gain weight", and while I've never been to that point, I have been called frail, and for an athlete, that is no bueno. I guess the point of that is to say being can be self conscious because they think they're too big, or too small.

It's certainly a journey, loving your body. While I know I won't wake up every day thinking "Wow I'm hot," I think there's a lot to be learned in the process. For one thing, I'm learning weight doesn't matter when it's track season and I'm running six days a week. Weight doesn't matter when I come home from a soccer game feeling accomplished. Weight doesn't matter when you feel healthy and step out in a little black dress. Sometimes, the number on the scale just doesn't matter.

My Favorite Combination

Right now, my favorite combination includes big knit scarves and a top knot / messy bun hairdo. The messy bun is perfect for those mornings when you have unwashed hair, and the knit scarf compliments that, keeping me toasty (for reals) at the same time. Seriously, the weather is getting pretty chilly and right now, scarves may be my best friend. (And I'd really like one of the ones above, from H&M) What combos are you guys loving this fall?

my striped therapy

I realized I had a "problem" with stripes when I reflected on the past week, finding that I wore stripes nearly every day. Granted, they were different types of stripes in different materials, and a stripes problem is a pretty sweet "problem" to have. But still.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with stripes (duh!) and I do own other prints that I love. That being said, I've cut myself off from buying stripes, and am trying to mix up the prints I already own. Plus, I've been inspiring myself by checking out other prints. Folks, there is a world beyond the stripes. And it's one fabulous world.

During the late summer, I received a fall catalogue in the mail from some place I'd never really heard of. Since it was still summer, I didn't really pay much attention to the fall looks inside, but now that the weather's changing, it's got my full attention. And let me tell you, Swell may have stolen my heart. {At least for the moment. My heart likes to change its mind, ya know?} Some of my favorite looks from Swell include prints, dusty colors, and the juxtaposition of something loose with something fitted.

I finally got my disposable film developed from California. Yeah, it's kind of not summer anymore but let's just look past that little fact. These pictures are just snapshots from my trip- unedited and often imperfect. But to me, that's kind of the beauty of film, and these pictures.

I had my first In-N-Out burger, went to the beach, marveled at the palm trees, saw the gorgeous flowers in Disneyland, drove to Santa Monica, and hung out at the beach for a while. Ok, so there were also some college tours on this trip but who wants pictures of that? No one? Good, because I have none. Beach pictures trump school pictures any day, yo.

my safari shirt

When I first got this button up shirt, I sorta kinda thought it resembled a safari shirt, but I didn't think it was too obviously similar. Turns out everyone else sees the resemblance, though, because throughout the day I was complimented on how cute my "safari shirt" was. Hey, I'll take it. Safaris are pretty sweet things.

Instead of wearing it loose and drapey, I tucked it in to a basic black skirt and belted it with a floral belt. For the record, I avoided any safari looking vests and binoculars.

I wore this safari shirt to the local elementary school, where I helped out with some first graders by testing their counting abilities. Turns out that nothing has changed from last year, and first graders still say the darndest things. One little guy proudly told me, "I could count to a million, but that would take a few days." Another one told me, "I have so many talents I don't even know what to do with them all."

Ah, to have the confidence of a first grader.

Saying hello to fall is always a bit easier when you have some of your favorite items to look forward to.

Essie Nail Polish in Mink Muffs- A medium to deep brown that totally reminds me of fall
Mary Kay Body Lotion in Warm Amber- I'm not even sure why, but I have just begun to associate this smell with fall.
Avon (I have no idea where this is from, or honestly what it's called.) This is like a chapstick application, but essentially it's a light lipstick. Red lipstick. It's perfect for me, because I get to stick my toes into the whole idea of red lipstick without going overboard.

Let me just say I probably have too many striped pieces (more on that later), and one of my new favorites is this six dolla sweater. It's comfy, slouchy, and slightly cropped. Perfection for fall, no?
My go to accessory will certainly be a stack of bracelets.

In terms of denim, I'm really looking forward to wearing dark jeans. Skinny jeans, I still have love for you but my flares are making a come back, folks.

Okay, now I'm kind of excited for fall.

August Photo Diary

In mid August, I saw "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown", a small production that was put on in the local park. It was done so well, and I loved it.

August also brought a few hikes with friends and family. Of course, I'm always stopping in the middle of the trail to capture flowers, but that's just the way it goes sometimes, right?

My dad had a birthday party! It was spent eating (of course!), playing with all the cute kids (seriously, some are ah-dorable), and talking with family.

We buried our first dog, Sparky. (That's the one on the right, in case you were thinking we buried the living dog on the left. We didn't.) Rooney was quite sad.

If you've been reading my blog for a little while, you'll have noticed that things are starting to look a little different 'round here. And that would be a correct thing to notice. I've been working on sprucing things up a bit, having a bit of color coordination {and trying not to be TOO matchy matchy}, and overall just improving the look of my blog. As most things are, it's still a work in progress and will constantly be improved upon, so stick with me, ok?! Also, I'd love to know what you think of the new header and color scheme!

the summer picnic

The other day, my family and I headed out to the "beach" {loosely titled} for a little picnic. It wasn't the traditional checkered blanket picnic in a meadow, but of course it was still fun. The sandwiches from the local sub place were delicious, and Rooney even found some road kill to intrigue her. Oh, and the last picture is of bird poop. I'm just keeping it classy here, folks. Classy and real.

Spending a lot of time on my hair, especially in the summer, has never been my thing. Now that my hair is getting long (like, I don't even remember the last time it was this long), I've changed up my routine a bit. First of all, I've embraced my natural wave. I don't know how and I don't know why, but when my hair gets to the length it's at now, for the most part it regularly dries into pretty nice waves. That being said, there are three main products that I use to keep my hair tame.

1. Suave for Kids Detangling Spray.

I know this is supposedly "for kids" but with long hair, it's easy to get tangled up, and I find that this works surprisingly well, especially considering you can find it for under 2 bucks.

2. Not Your Mothers Beach Babe Spray

When I want to spruce up my waves, this is my spray. It's basically sea salt and water, but it works for me. I wouldn't recommend this for people without wavy hair, though. I think it works best with a pre-existing wave.

3. Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Relaxing Balm

This is really nice to put on my damp hair to help stay frizz free (another important thing with long hair!). This is also nice to put on damp hair before braiding it, because I know it'll keep fly-aways...away. If that makes any sense at all.

the one hour road trip

flower power

It's been a while since I've come up with a witty title, and sadly, "flower power" was the best I could do. Pathetic title aside, flowers are really great subjects because they're always willing to model, they don't move a whole lot, and they're always looking gorgeous. Dream models, right?! Rooney (the dog) is much more temperamental. Diva, you could say.
The past week or so has brought me outside quite a bit. I've been hiking, biking, and clearly seeking out pretty flowers. Of course, the third picture is clearly not of flowers. That is (from the left) my sister Abbie, sister Emma, and me. Jumping pictures always make me smile. I've missed reading your blogs, and I can't wait to catch up!

My life has been a little crazy the past few weeks, although in a good way. I've done a bit of traveling, which inevitably means no computer which often means no blogging. And guess what? I'm leaving again tomorrow and I'll have no cell/computer service! Crazy stuff, I know. I may have a scheduled post or so, but you never know. If not, I'll see you again {hear from you? Festivities

This July 4th was a fabulous one. Last year, I wasn't in the country, which made this year seem even better. I spent it out at the lake with my friends. We had a bonfire, roasted marshmallows, played with glow sticks, and watched the fireworks. I took a lot more film pictures than digital, so I'll make sure to post those once they're developed.

Simply A Classic

The summer is usually the perfect time for experimenting with footwear. A lot of times, though, I think the classic summer shoes are forgotten in the onslaught of "new". Take the strappy black wedge, for example. Its versatility is perfect, yet it doesn't always get the attention it deserves. Currently, I'm on the hunt for the perfect strappy black wedges myself, and even though I have yet to find a pair (anyone know where to find some?!) these are the outfits I envision myself wearing with them.

Hello, everyone! After what seems like a year (even though it was only a week) in Puerto Rico, I'm back at home and back in (or is it on?) the blogosphere. The trip was amazing, although not always smooth. {People getting stung by coral when snorkeling, for example.} But overall, yes, it was incredible. Puerto Rico is a gorgeous place and I'm so happy to have been able to go.

I was so lucky to be able to go with a bunch of my friends! Don't you love our attractive ziplining harnesses? Me too.

The building colors were so pretty!

That, my friends, is a caterpillar, and I'm glad we don't have them at home.

You'll probably be seeing more pictures to come, but for now I don't want to overwhelm you with a bajillion pictures. I'm excited to get back to reading your blogs, too! I've definitely missed them. I hope everyone's having a great week.

Guest Post: Chelsea of Zipped

When Kathryn asked me to guest blog, the only request she made me was a summer theme! Therefore, I'm taking you all for a day in one of my favorite coastal towns north of Seattle: Anacortes, WA.

The best place to go is Commercial Ave, which runs straight through downtown. It is filled with gorgeous little shops, galleries, and cafes fit for a major foodie like myself. The espresso at Johnny Picasso's is lovely, to say the least.

One of my favorite pastimes is browsing used bookstores, and the best in Anacortes is Earth Bound Books. I bought a copy of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew on this day, and got a happy surprise:

You never know what you'll discover in a used book.

As you continue the virtual journey down Commercial Ave, you'll pass a couple of antique stores until suddenly you're at the end, treated with the view.

Just at the beach. Surrounded by islands. No big deal. Spend a few minutes pondering your life's journey, and then you get to walk back past all the shops and decide where to eat for lunch.

I love spending summer days exploring locally. There is always something new! If you are ever in the vicinity of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, I'll give you the best tour you can get. For the price of a milkshake at Fidalgo Drive-In.

Summer Soundtrack

In the past few years, one of my favorite things to do right before the start of summer has been to compile a playlist that inevitably becomes the "soundtrack of summer". {It sounds cliche, but it's true, right?!} Since today is basically my first day of summer, I thought I'd share a sampling from this years playlist. Usually, my playlists are a blend of fast and slow songs, well known and not as well known songs, and songs from different genres.

**This is not my full playlist, because I didn't want to have an obnoxiously long widget. If you like what you hear, though, let me know and I can share a few of the others from the playlist!

What Time Is It?

Today was my last day of school, and I couldn't be happier. My junior year of high school is finished, and it's crazy to think I'll be a senior next (this?) year. There's only one awkward that comes from ending the school year:

Awkward: ~~Chatty adults~~ people asking you what grade you're in during the summer. Well, you see, I'm sorta between right now. I guess? Or maybe you just round up. Who knows.

Anyway, without further ado. Whether or not you think High School Musical is rather cliche (it is) or made for middle school girls (this is also true), you can't deny that if you've seen it, you've wanted your last day to be something like this. I mean, I know I have. Chanting the word summer, then having the whole school breaking into song? Sah-weet! Here's to the last day of school, folks!

For The Cool Nights

If the future summer weather is anything like the past few days, I'll be needing quite a few light sweaters and coats to get me by. {Seriously, I have worn a light coat pretty much every day the the past few days.} Whether or not your days have been chilly, chances are you're going to need a light sweater at least once during the summer. I'm already planning on keeping a few of my sweaters at the front of my closet. {No matter how badly I want to go without a sweater until after August, it may not be practical. Darn common sense!}

Library Trips and Other Awkward Moments

Awkward: My trip to the library. First of all, I had oh, about six books plus my wallet and keys that I was attempting to carry. Then, I did the self checkout and asked why my card barcode was showing up as someone elses. Turns out that was actually the book barcode. My bad.

Awesome: Shopping for summer clothes! I got the shirt above and another flowy top, as well as the pair of shorts below. I really tried not to buy stripes, but you all know how that goes.

Double Awesome: The top and shorts are from a local store, which means a) I didn't have to drive more than two minutes and b) I payed less. Saving money is always awesome.

Awkward: The word classic. As I was putting the type in that picture, I had to make sure it was spelled right. After you look at it for a while, you'll do the same thing, trust me.

Double Awkward {Or Double Funny, I Can't Decide. Maybe Both}: Overhearing the debate from some friends sitting next to me in class about whether it was "Tank Top Wednesday" or "Sweats Wednesday", and then again today if it was "Flannel Friday" or not. Did I mention these were guys having this debate?

^^This will be me this weekend. I've got big plans. Sleep. Homework. Eat. Repeat.

The weather has been fantastic, school ends next week, and my nails are nice and colorful. Eeek, it's like summer already! {Okay, maybe the polish is chipping already. Let's blame it on the nail polish, not my lack of attention, 'kay?}. After I painted my nails, I looked outside and realized our front tree matched the pink, and the blue sky matched the blue. Can you say major matching moment!? How about we say I did it on purpose. Right.

I'm a notebook freak, I'll admit it. There's just something about notebooks, especially new ones, that I really like. Is that weird? Probably. Anyway...I know there are countless places online to make a collage, which I enjoy, but sometimes it's just more fun to actually flip through magazines to find inspiration in words, pictures, outfits, and color.
I usually don't have tons of time to work on collages, but when I do find some, I like to create these simple ones. They're not too complex, but the process is always relaxing, not to mention inspiring.

Awkward/Awesome Friday

Awkward:

- Playing with a Silly Band during a banquet, only to have that Silly Band break and fly a few feet away. Yup. Other people were definitely laughing at me quietly.

- Driving out of the school parking lot, only to look over and see one of your friends jogging next to your window. Okay, maybe this just nearly gave me a heart attack and isn't so awkward. Maybe.

- You know that dress I posted about the other day? Well, I wore that on a windy day and even though I indeed did have "bike shorts" (spandex) on, it was certainly awkward having the front panel flying up.

- Standing there while one friend talks to a friend you don't know. I mean, it's the awkward moment when it's too late to introduce yourself but you still have no idea who they are.

- When a teacher says "LOL" in emails. Uh, what?!

Awesome:

- The jumping pictures my sister executed. Proud photographer moment here.

- I'm leaving for Puerto Rico in, oh, 3 WEEKS! Crazy.

- The forecast for this weekend. It's actually supposed to be summery. At least, over sixty degrees. Boo to the ya.

- New yoga pants! I love getting dressed up and cute as much as the next person, but when it comes to lounging, let's be honest: It's hard to beat the yoga pants.

- Costco. What's not to be awesome? Although if you're hungry, it's totes mgotes the wrong place to be. EVERYTHING will look delish.

My Sister, Her Dress

This dress could be my new favorite, and it's not even mine. {I seem to be having a lot of favorites lately. What can I say?} It's got this these pieces of fabric (the dark blue) that are only on the front and back, and then a lighter blue color on the side. Not only is this dress comfy {like, oh, can I wear this everyday for the entire summer?!} but it's also really flattering. A win, and a win.

My sister and I both agree, the only downside to this dress is that due to it's easy movement, it's not friends with the wind. We both can attest to the fact that one should not (I repeat, should not!) wear this dress on a windy day. Enough said.

Like A Movie

Probably one of my favorite things about where I live is how close we are to the water. It's nice to be able to take advantage of the sun by driving out to what locals call "The Hook" and walking along the shoreline. {It's kinda like a beach, but it's never warm enough and there's really no sand.}

My sister and I spent a little time out there this past week walking the dog and looking for crabs. I took some pictures, then apparently went into obsessive cinema effect mode when I got home. There's just something about the effect that makes even basic photos seem just a little more interesting.

I like color. And changing my mind.

You may think I'm crazy at this point in time, considering I just ~~raved~~ posted about two colors I was loving for summer. Well, that was before I saw the Essie Braziliant collection of nail polishes. They're so bright and colorful, and I can just imagine wearing a bold nail color with pale pink or nude colors on your clothing. All the items here are from Forever 21. {Minus the nail polish, of course.}

This morning was another day spent in the first grade for me. Despite the super tiny chairs, I decided to wear a dress anyway. A girl can only wear jeans to the first grade for so long. This particular dress has a kinda funky waistline, so I resorted to the motto: When in doubt, belt it. {That's not official, or anything, but it seems like a good motto, right?!}

It's Nice to Feel Warm Again

Lazy afternoon? Check.

Aside from my classes, today was spent lounging around at home in front of the open window, enjoying the cool breeze. And taking pictures of Rooney, of course. She's pretty much a model now, no big deal. Hopefully your week has been warm and relaxing too!

Oh, and posting this weekend may be non existant because I'm heading off to a track meet for 2 days. Rocking the track shorts all weekend, my friends. It's whatever.

The Colors of Summer

I'm all for muted, soft colors during the summer, but every once in a while I think this season presents a perfect time to break out some bright, vibrant colors. Currently, I've been inspired by coral and turquoise. There's just something about them that seems like summer. Right now, I'm imagining myself wearing the coral eyelet dress with those light turquoise sandals. I mean, it might be raining, but sooner or later it has to get sunny, right? Let's hope so.

Awkward:

- That picture right up there. Yeah, the one of me in my nerd glasses. That, my dears, is what happens when you're in the car and find an old pair of 3d glasses.

- The other picture up there. Apparently the dog is tired of looking at me and has to sleep facing the cushions.

- When you decide to wear your hair down, and that just happens to be an extremely windy day. Hello hair all over the place.

- Getting a cold in the springtime. This inevitably leads to blowing your nose in class, which is wayyy awkward. But really just embarrassing.

- When Blogger goes down, and then doesn't restore all of your posts :(

Awesome:

-Mother's Day this past Sunday. The sun was shining, I got to garden (as a gift to my mom), and we had a wonderful BBQ dinner.

- Listening to songs without lyrics. As of late, I'm really enjoying Marley Carroll. {Look up his songs, they're good!}

- Rearranging my room. Doesn't it just make ya feel good?

- Watching old episodes of Hey Arnold with my friends. Please tell me someone else out there really kinda misses the show?

- Did I mention the sun came out for about a day!?

In my weak attempts to pretend the weather is actually pleasant, I pulled on a tank top that combines two of my favorite things: stripes and color. While the weather still hasn't warmed up (or stopped raining for that matter...) at least I felt somewhat cheery with this bright tank {which has a lace back! That's three awesome things in one top: stripes, color, lace!}

Looking Ahead

This post was originally here, but I liked doing it so much that I decided to give it another go here. I was asked to post about my summer essentials if I was only allowed one duffle bag. Yes, folks. Only one. {I don't know about you, but I find that realllly hard to do.} The weather's not quite summery yet, but I can pretend that I'm able to wear this stuff. It's whatever, ya know. {Oh, and click on the title of each collage to see clothing info.}

1. Tops

1. Casual, flowy tops that are comfy and chic, as well as a blouse that can be dressed up.

2. Swimsuit, of course, for the lake/pool/ocean/river/puddle.

3. A vest for layering, sweater and military inspired jacket for cooler nights

2. Bottoms

1. Dresses! Versatility is key, something for the beach that

can be dressed up at night.

2. Shorts for the beach, shorts for exploring...

I'd take a denim pair and a cargo short.

3. Pants, for cool evenings or just the rare chilly day.

4. Skirst are super easy to pack, and once again versatile.

3. Accessories

1. In terms of shoes, I'd bring a pair of gladiators, a dressy wedge
shoe, and a basic canvas shoe. The latter is especially importany
if you're planning on doing a ton of walking.

2. Sunglasses, for protecting your eyes and looking cool
and mysterious, obviously.

3. A canvas beach bag and then an every day crossbody bag.

When I think about spring colors, red isn't usually a color that comes to mind. The other day, though, I saw a girl wearing these bright red shoes and for some reason, I was instantly drawn to the idea of having some bright red aspect to my outfits, whether it be in a shoe or other accessory. Then I searched my closet.

Yup, guess who doesn't really own any red pieces. This kid, right here. Guiltyyyy. So then I had to go find red pieces online, and these are the particular ones that hit the spot. How about you? Is red your color?

I like chocolate, and I like princesses, so of course combining the two is a double win in my book. I'll admit, I usually don't think of cool things like actually combining and layering the nail polish I have, but now that I've tried it I probably won't be able to stop. Sorta like with actual chocolate. But you know, it's whatever.

This weekend was one of the first in many that I was able to stay in town, relax, and get some pictures while the sun was still out. I'm currently working on a senior project, in which I have to take pictures of my town, and what makes it special. So these will probably be a part of that project.

I know I've been posting quite a bit on photography recently, and while I really do enjoy posting about it, I'm ready to get back to more style posts. What do you think? I hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

Subtle

So far this spring, the weather hasn't exactly been...springy. While lots of people are whipping out the shorts/short sleeves/sandals, I'm, well, not. It's sad, but it's a tough reality I must face. {Isn't my life difficult?}. That being said, I've resorted to a few subtle outfit changes that still keep me warm, yet feel just a bit more spring like.

I think that cuffing the pants or rolling the sleeves are the perfect way to subtley show off a hint of skin, yet still stay warm because let's face it, the sun clearly has turned against me. Generally speaking, ankles and wrists are flattering, too. By rolling up sleeves or pants (just a little bit!) you're drawing attention to mostly universally flattering points.

five dolla thoughts

Meet my five dollar sweater, folks. It's only been in my closet for about a week, yet I've already worn it more times than I'd probably like to admit. Why?

1. It's perfectly slouchy.

2. It's the Goldilocks of sweaters. Not too heavy for summer, not too light for winter.

3. It was five dollars {and that pretty much trumps all other reasons.}

4. It's really, really comfortable.

5. I can wear it half tucked...

6. Or wear it loose like here or here.

And on another random note not related to the sweater, it's actually been sorta-kinda sunny. Fingers crossed for weather of at least 50 degrees! Woop woop.

Awkward/Awesome Friday

{The best princess birthday balloons ever.}

{We're not big on putting alll the candles on the cake, as you can tell. I'm 17, not 5.}

Awkward:

-When you're walking towards someone, and they go to the same side as you, so you go to the other side, but they've gone to the other side...and you do that awkward little dance, and finally get by the person. Oh, so awkward.

- Asking if you can get change for something, meaning you're going to get the exact amount to pay. The cashier, though, thinks you're asking for change from the two dollars you used to pay for something over two dollars.

- Not knowing if the way I described the other awkward moments makes sense.

-Public displays of affection. Very public. Very affectionate. Very awkward.

- The shoes with the toes. I guess they're pretty unique, but toes are just, well, awkward.

Awesome:

- Birthday dinner!! Thanks to my parents for being great cooks.

- My new cellular device! I "said goodbye" to my old phone of three years (three awesome years, yeah). Anyone have any favorite apps?

-Going to lunch at the Bagel Company. Bagels, bagels, bagels. Mmmm.

- Riding in a car with tinted windows. I mean, you can totally people watch in the parking lot and no one ever knows. I know, it sounds weird, but let me tell ya, people watching at the high school is actually really interesting.

I Time Traveled Back to First Grade

This morning was spent tutoring first graders in math. {Ironic, right, since I don't like math myself.} You know, they really do say the darndest things. I mean, today there was the boy jogging into the school saying "Girl cooties, girl cooties!". A few weeks ago, there was the first grader who tried to convince me that 7 plus 5 was 11, and not 12.

I always try to dress fairly casually for these mornings. For me, heels are out because I already tower over the little guys. Dresses and skirts aren't my favorite, either, because sitting in these super tiny first grade chairs in a dress just isn't happening, ya know? Today I went with some color, dark jeans, and accessories.

Awkward/Awesome Friday (+Film!)

Awkward:

-Trying to get around a group of people who are blocking the door. Especially when they don't hear you as you try to say "excuse me" and push past.

- Heading to my 8 am class, only to find out that the room where it's supposed to take place in is the Chinese class. Then waiting for the professor to show up because he too went to the wrong class, and walked in on the beginning of a Chinese lesson.

- Some poems. I mean, some of them are awkward and not meant to be discussed in your American Lit class.

- When you smell a person's perfume/scent from about a mile away, and then when they walk past you it's like your nose is assaulted by that scent. Even if it's a really pretty scent, too much is just not good. Trust me.

Awesome:

- Film! All the above pictures are my recently developed film. For the most part, I think they turned out okay. I love the subtle grains, too. I can't wait to {hopefully} continue shooting some film. Anyone have any special film tricks they go by?

- Petite lap giraffes. Cutest. things. ever. Why can't they be real!?

- Finishing class at 11:20. It's like I have so much time on my hands now. {But not really, because I still have homework and all that other fun stuff.}

- The thermometer read 50 degrees, today, folks. Know what that means? It's spring!

- Funny friends.

Basic Math for Spring

Let me let you in on a little secret of mine. Ready? Okay, here it is: I have never liked math! {ooh, good one}. Secrets aside, I decided that math when it involves outfits is much, much more fun. So much fun, in fact, that I made four basic "math outfits" for spring. {Except math outfits sounds like a club uniform or something. Must think of a better name!} These outfits are very, very basic, but the whole idea is to get you thinking on what you want to wear this spring. Color is an element of each set. Of course, these are basically the foundations of great outfits. Accessories and such will make them so much more personalized! Enjoy, my dears.

As you can see, I'm back from my spring break! It was a very relaxing and enjoyable vacation, but now I'm ready to go back to posting and catching up on your blogs. I hope you all enjoyed the guest posts, they were pretty fabulous and now I'm ready for spring. I'll be getting back to Awkward/Awesome Fridays next week, but for now, just a quick recap of the awesomes.

Spring Essentials: Ashlyn

Hello everyone! I'm Ashlyn, author of the blog Triple Thread. Kathryn recently asked me to guest post about my spring essentials and of course I was happy to oblige!

Although I have a special place in my heart for every season, spring is definitely the most liberating fashion wise. After being stuck in layers all winter long, I dream for floaty dresses and shorts when the warmer weather rolls around. Every year during spring I start gravitating
towards the same four things without fail. I call these my "spring essentials". Read on to find out just what they are and why!

My sense of wanderlust is magnified ten fold as soon as the temperature reaches sixty degrees, and my fashion choices often match these urges to travel and go on adventures. That's why my first essential is both practical and adorable: functional, flat shoes.

With all of the exciting things that are bound to take place during spring, I usually find that there is little time for heels and uncomfortable shoes. But that doesn't mean your feet
(and outfit) can't look adorable! I find it is best to have shoes with a high quality sole and cushioning on the inside to ensure that your feet are happy no matter how much you might be walking.

Another fashion magnet for me during spring is dressing very girly. Although I give in to more of my tomboy tendencies during the winter, spring's blooms make me want to put on the prettiest dresses I own. Thus, my next essential: pretty, printed dresses. Even if my legs haven't seen the sun in three months, the breezy fabric and lightweight feel of cotton dresses call my name!

With all the wandering around I do during the season, I find it is very important to have certain things with me. I usually like to have (aside from the basic cellphone, keys, wallet combination) my journal, a watercolor sketchbook and watercolor supplies, and my camera (sometimes more than one) with me at all times. You never know when inspiration will strike! My favorite thing for carrying all these items is a roomy satchel.

Although my irrational fear of bees sometimes prevents me from wanting to smell too much like a flower, the girly girl that arises during spring wants to smell pretty as well as looking pretty. I associate perfume with certain seasons and phases of my life, and these are the scents I usually spritz during spring. I have tried each and every one and would recommend them all! Luckily my spring essentials make for the perfect combination. Add a dash of adventure and some sunglasses, and I'm sure great memories will be made!

Spring Essentials: Ashley

At the moment, I'm probably relaxing on my break, taking in the...snow. Ready for another fabulous guest post? Spring Essential #1: Crop Tops & Bralettes

It's time to shed that winter coat and bare some skin! Crop tops or bralettes with high waisted skirts, shorts, or trousers are perfect and totally appropriate for springtime.

Tip: If you're not totally comfortable with showing off this much skin, you can always wear your crop top over a dress or tank top.

Spring Essential #2: White, Carefree Dresses
Spring is the perfect time to become reconnected with nature. As the days warm up, I find myself wanting to do nothing but taking a long walk, having a picnic at the park, and frolicking about in a big, sunlit forest (not unlike the scene in the animated Pocahontas movie!). And what do I want to do all of this stuff in? An easy, earthy white dress. And as an added bonus, think of how versatile a simple white dress can be!

Tip: If you're going to be outside in it a lot, don't spend too much money on the perfect white dress, since it'll probably get a little dirty. Also, opt for cotton-based dresses, since they'll be the easiest to clean!

Spring Essential #3: Denim Everything
Denim is so versatile, not to mention easy to wear. This season, I'm going to be using it to dress down maxi dresses and florals (so 90s!).

Tip: To save money, check your local thrift stores for some denim steals. I have two denim vests: one was purchased at Levi's for about $70. The other one was found at Savers for a whopping $3.99. Both give off the same rough-and-tumble vibe.

Spring Essential #4: Simple Shoes
If you live in a climate anything like mine, "spring" is practically synonymous with "the melting of the snow," which translates into "a whole lotta mud." April is going to be all about the easy-to-clean rainboots. By May, I'll probably bust out the cheap canvas sneakers, since they're easy to walk in and can just be thrown away if they get too dirty. Minnetonka moccasins are my ideal summer shoe: they're comfortable, low maintenance, and they go with everything.

Tip: When choosing a pair of moccasins, make sure you get one with a sole. They'll last longer and you will be more comfortable when walking on dirt, rocks, and slippery surfaces.

Spring Essentials: Hayley

Hayley, from the fabulous Weekend File is here to talk about Spring. {Plus she lives in California so she knows a little something something about warm weather, and how to look oh so chic in the spring.} Enjoy!

Hey Everyone! Hayley from the Weekend File here! I am a part time barista, and slowly becoming a full time blogger! I live in sunny Southern California with my new little puppy, Lewis, and my charming boyfriend, Geoff. With rolling our clocks back recently, our days are extra long and extra warm and I haven't even had a chance to prepare for Spring. But today's post got me thinking about it. Here are my top 10 must haves for the Spring, and they are all from Forever 21! Totally affordable items that can add that little punch to your wardrobe!

1. Maxi Dress and Floral Prints. This dress is the best of both worlds for me in Spring. Maxi dresses are casual and cool, but still keep you covered up in case it gets cold in the evening (or if your legs still aren't ready to come out of hibernation!). Floral prints are really the epitome of the season and I don't care how you wear them, but its a must! Pull out your old Easter dresses ladies, those babies are back in style this year!

2. Aviators. These sunglasses are oh-co cool and yet oh-so casual they go with nearly every outfit. They really make a simple piece, like just a pair of sunglasses, make a big fashion statement. If you have blonder hair (like I do) I prefer the more golden rimmed lenses, but if you have darker hair, the silver ones look great. Remember, Maverick? Dreamy!!

3. Lightweight Scarves. I am never ready to part with my favorite accessory when winter ends that's why my neck begs for an alternative. Enter the tissue weight scarf. Keep them light and airy, in bright, vibrant colors and it will be a nice way to dress up a plain tee and jeans on the weekend. Also, no sunburns on the back of your neck!

4. Denim button up. The versatility of this piece is unreal. It can be worn over dresses layered over tank tops, tucked in to skirts, and even help trick the eye to the pattern-afraid fashionista. Scared of a floral skirt or white pants? The denim shirt is like a little fashion comfort blankie. Sometimes I get suck in a denim rut, and this is a great way to try a new piece, without it being too over the top.

5. Candy Colored Nails. Put your red nail polish and Lincoln Park After Dark in the back of the drawer and embrace some new colors for the fall. Think of the Easter bag of M&M's and shop accordingly. My favorite is a very matte sea foam green and a bold taupe. These colors are different, festive, and help jazz up everyone's old standard pinks and reds.

6. Turquoise Jewelry. This is one that takes me all the way through summer. I love a bold, blue pendant or sparkly aqua ring. This type of jewelry can be found at just about any jewelry store and matched with just about anything and it adds the post beautiful pops of color in a very traditional way.

7. Strappy Heels. This is like a hybrid of a wedge sandal, a heel, and a flip flop all rolled into one. Spring is the chance to keep your heels a bit higher, the heel a big chunkier and the chance to play with little cut out details and straps. These are the best all rolled into one. And if it is breezy, slip on a nude slight weight sock and keep those toesies warm! It will still be just as cute.

8. Lace Up Oxfords. I remember wearing these as a kid (the classic black and white version) and now they are back with a vengeance. You can get them with laces or without, and in just about every color. If you are looking for an alternative to your winter booties and a before stage to your strappy sandals try playing around with your styling and adding a pair of these babies. They look great with flowing skirts or rolled up jeans. And don't be afraid to look a little Grease and roll your socks down... It's cool again!

9. Graphic Print Tanks. I think I have a whole drawer full of these silky tank tops with all different kinds of prints. It is an easy way to add so much color and vibrancy to any outfit. Paired with a cardigan you have the best of both worlds for a Springy day out and about. And you can pull this look off heading to work to or going out on the town, they are sooo easy to dress up... they are a must have!

10. Western Inspired Leathers. Whether it is a pair of cowboy boots or a belt with western inspired details these accessories look great paired with a white dress or a pair of denim cutoffs. The little details make you think of summery days and the outdoors and add a different take on the classic brown leather belt. And swap out your heavy black, flat boots for a funky pair of tan cowboy boots and you will look like you are spending your weekend on a Texas ranch in the sun!

Awkward/Awesome Friday

This week was a pretty average one as far as awkward moments go. Finals were this week, so my life consisted of eating, sleeping {hardly!} and studying. Exciting, right? I know.

Awkward:

- Rebecca Black's song. Haven't heard it? The lyrics go a little something like this:

"Kickin' in the front seat

Sittin' in the back seat

Gotta make my mind up

Which seat do I choose."

People say it's bad to make fun of the song, but guys, she's probably laughing all the way to the bank.

- The crazy amount of telephone pole pictues I put on this blog. {Like the one up there.}

Awesome:

-It's Spring Break, baby! And my math class is finished. {Picture me throwing papers into the air, jumping around, crying from happiness...you get the point.}

- Driving around the other day in the sun with the windows down! Sure, it was only 51 degrees but sun is sun.

- My sister is coming home this weekend from college. Yay!

- Getting some great guest posts for next week while I'm away.

- Being able to enjoy running because you're running wih a friend.

Their looks are simple, but the pictures are aesthetically pleasing. After a day where I spent four hours working on math in a study group, I'll go for anything that looks pretty. With these looks, it's mission accompished.

The closest nail polish color I have to navy is Teal the Cows Come Home by OPI. So basically, it's blue, and that's where its similarities to navy end. As I painted my nails, it made me think of The Little Mermaid because the blue has just a hint of sparkle and is the color of the ocean. {A really clean, Disney produced ocean but that's okay.}

Ariel, however, needs to put on more clothes for the sake of the children.

Awkward:

-When someone blows their nose in class, and it's endless! It's way awkward for those of us who have to listen to you.

- The word problem in my math book that involves drunken college students and keg. Enough said, right?

- Forgetting where you park, especially when you drive the most average looking cars. {Beige Honda, anyone?}

- Being around two other Kathryn's. I am constantly responding to someone when they weren't even talking to me. Oops.

Awesome:

-Girl Scout cookies!! {Thanks, dad!}

- Mr. Sun, sun, Mr. Golden sun. Please keep shining, forever.

- Having a stack of books that I can read. {Not for school, even!}

- Being able to go to sleep in a bed that's been made all day. I know, I'm kinda weird that way, but I find I sleep way better when I make my bed that morning!

-Seeing this guy set off his car alarm so he can find his car. At first, I thought this was awkard. Then, I realized it was genius.

The Herd

You know what's pretty funny? Thinking of your animal jewelry as a herd. {Or flock. Depends on what types of animals, ya know.} Currently in my herd I have a bear, a giraffe, a dolphin, and an owl. I'm really thinking of expanding, though. What's next? Maybe some animal earrings.

Awkward/Awesome Friday

So. It has come to this, guys. My first outfit post, conveniently just in time for Awkward and Awesome Friday. I'll admit, the lighting isn't perfect and the location is as exotic as my front door. {Really, guys. It's my door.} But, I did have fun with my mom {thanks!} and I kinda liked how they turned out. So it's a win-win in my book.

Awkward:

-Having my bag fall off my shoulder at school. This caused me to awkwardly carry it as a large clutch and pretend like nothing happened.

- When your attempts to study lead to staring blankly at the page.

- Some of the pictures that resulted from this "photo shoot". Seriously, it's quite awkward.

- That moment when you pull into a parking spot, and then someone starts pulling in on the other side. And then they proceed to take way more than their spot. Hey, dude. I'm parking here too...

- The fact that I kind of match my house with the green.

Awesome:

- My mom! She was willing to take my pictures.

- Mac&Cheese. I know it's not healthy. But I was sooo hungry, and it hit the spot. Mmm.

- Feeling like you did really well on a test. {For once, no joke.}

- Being able to walk faster in these heels than some people can walk in flats. I. Am. A. Champion, guys. {Or people walk really slow...let's go with the first one.}

- Making piña colada {minus the rum, of course!} in Spanish class. Despite the fact that it was about 38 degrees outside, it still tasted good.

1. This is my new favorite clothing item.

2. It's from Goodwill. {I prefer to think of it as thrifted, though, because it makes me sound cooler.}

3. It looks like a box on the hanger, which goes to show the importance of trying things on. It's a size small and doesn't look like a box when I wear it.

4. I've been looking for a blazer for a really. really. long time.

5. Another bonus of this blazer: It allows me to wear plaid and skinny jeans without looking like a skater.

6. "Thrifting" {is that even a real word?} is much more fun when you have a friend with you.

Enough said.

Awkward/Awesome Friday

{Snow, snow, snow!}

Awkward:

- Me, walking in the snow. Because yesterday at school, the sidewalks weren't shoveled and it was icy, so I was super duper careful.

- Seeing kids walking around in sandals. As it's snowing.

- Going to class and only having five people there because of, you guessed it, the snow. Yes, our town basically shuts down and freaks out when it snows.

- Once again, the stomach growl has made its way onto this list. Because it's just extremely awkward when it growls at the wrong time {read: when you're getting help from your professor}.

Awesome:

- Snow day! The positive side to our town freaking out about snow.

- The sun is out today. Random, I know. But there's snow, and sun. Crazy weather.

- My sister {in the picture above} for letting me take pictures of her with her face paint on.

- Having an excuse to lounge around all day and not really do anything at all.

- My planner. Am I the only one who will write something down that I've already done, just so I can cross it off? It makes me feel so accomplished. {Maybe that's awkward, I'm still not sure.}

Just A Little Review

A little while ago, I bought the Lauren Conrad Style book for myself. I had heard quite a bit about it, and I was actually pretty curious to see if it was any good. Now, I've never even watched her show, and I don't really "follow" her life {basically, I'm no celeb stalker. But hey, if you are, I won't even judge you!}, so it's not like I bought this because it was Lauren Conrad's book.

Pros:

-This book is simple, easy to read, and has lots of pictures {always a plus}. It's written as though Lauren Conrad is having a conversation with the reader, which makes it a pretty enjoyable read.

- There's good, basic information in here regarding fashion, beauty, and lifestyle.

- If you're running low on inspiration, you're sure to find at least one new idea in here. Personally, I was inspired by how she took a simple black dress and restyled it a few times. {Below}.

- Even if you have your personal style figured out, there are lots of nice little tips on things such as mixing patterns, and which shoes will look best with which jeans.

-Lauren Conrad also mentions one of the most important ideas in fashion: "There are no rules when it comes to fashion." {Ironic, since this whole book is basically a rule book, but let's just pretend it all works out.}

Cons:

- There seems to be a lot of empty space in this book. This is obviously not a huge problem, but it often just looks pretty bare.

- Although the photographs of her are gorgeous, they all are taken the exact same way. It gets a little boring.

- Not all the ideas are practical. Lauren Conrad mentions asking your local shoe boutique about a great cobbler in the area. First of all, there is no shoe boutique in my town that I'm aware of. Secondly, my quick search for a cobbler in the area showed one place that specialized in shoes. Basically, this isn't LA and a variety of shoe cobblers just don't exist here.

- Of course, she is a celebrity, so quite a few of the clothing items she mentions aren't that realistic for your average fashionista. {For lack of a better word...}

- In terms of new ideas, it's very {very, very..} basic. Definitely a "for beginners" type book.

Overall:

- This book really doesn't have any ground breaking idea or tips. That said, it's a nice book if you're looking for beginner tips, or even some inspiration. If you're a huge Lauren Conrad fan, then you'll probably enjoy this too. If you want something a little more in depth, try looking at some of these fashion related books.

I'd love to know if anyone else has read the book, and what they think about it!

Details are key in my outfits. Whether it's your painted nails or funky necklace, wearing extra details can change an entire look.

Awkward/Awesome Friday

Awkward:

- When the sun is right behind the stop light, so you're squinting really obviously, and you're sure the car next to you is like "Wow, that girl's weird."

- The people that make Valentine's Day into "Singles Awareness Day" and tell everyone to wear black. Do these people realize you can love your family and friends too?

- Waving at someone, and then having them not see your wave. Yes, that would be my hand awkwardly hanging mid air.

- Turning into a skinny alley at the same time as a car is pulling out. That's a tight squeeze. Plus, I try to wave at the other driver but just get scowled out. Wrong side of the bed, dear?

- When dog hair shows up on every. single. piece. of clothing. Especially when people notice it. I need a full body lint roller.

- The fact that about 90% of my awkward moments occur due to:

a) driving/parking

b) walking

- When people wave at you from behind tinted windows. Sorry, I have no idea who you are because your windows are just too tinted. That's why I only half smiled at you.

Awesome:

- Having a friend who lives out of town coming back for a weekend! It's so awesome to see far away friends.

- Getting a prime parking spot. Which means I don't have to speedwalk {or jog/sprint on a bad day} to class.

- Looking through my CD collection. Keep your CD's friends, one day they'll be worth something.

- Creating a print wall, full of pictures. New, old, digital, film. It's all there {or on it's way to that wall.}

-Two words: Lazy Sundays
